At Craven Safety Services we are offering a new Fire Awareness & Extinguisher training course. This two hour course will teach candidates about the causes of fires and how to respond correctly when a fire is discovered. There will also be a hands-on demonstration of how to use fire extinguishers.
The HSE are providing COSHH Essentials which set out basic advice on what to do to control exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace.
It is straightforward advice presented as fact sheets called Control Guidance Sheets. There are two types of sheets, industry specific Direct Advice Sheets and Generic Control Guidance Sheets.
First check the direct advice sheets listed by industry to see if there are any direct advice sheets for tasks or processes in your industry. If your industry is not listed, you can use our e-tool to identify which generic control guidance sheets are appropriate. When using the e-tool you will be prompted, by questions, to enter some basic information about the substance you are using, before being directed to the most appropriate generic control guidance sheet for you.

The Dangerous Substances Directive and the Dangerous Preparations Directive have been replaced by the direct-acting European CLP Regulation. From 1 June 2015, both Directives have been fully withdrawn and no longer have any legal effect. The familiar square orange hazard symbols used often in COSHH assessments are now no longer valid and the new red and white diamond shaped symbols should be used.
As a result, the CHIP – Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations have also been repealed. Transitional arrangements were in place to help suppliers make the move to the CLP system, but from 1 June 2015, chemical suppliers must comply with the CLP Regulation.
